Workshop on the Risks of Illegal Immigration

Under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Political Science at Al-Nahrain University, Prof. Dr. Osama Murtada Baqir Al-Saidi, the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the college, in collaboration with the Migration Resource Centre (MRC), organized an awareness workshop titled “Reducing the Risks of Illegal Immigration.” The workshop was presented by Janan Hamid Muhammad from the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, and Noor Abdul Nabi Jawad from the Labor Resource Center at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development.

The speakers discussed the social, economic, and psychological risks associated with illegal immigration and ways to enhance students’ awareness of these risks. They encouraged students to engage in national development pathways instead of resorting to irregular migration, highlighting the efforts of governmental and international organizations in addressing this phenomenon.

The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations emphasizing the importance of spreading legal and social awareness on the topic of migration and the need for cooperation between academic institutions and relevant authorities in raising awareness about its risks. The workshop was organized and coordinated by Assistant Lecturer Abdullah Muhammad Qasim, Head of the University Psychological Counseling Unit, and Assistant Lecturer Noor Mushtaq Hassan, member of the Counseling Unit.
