“Symposium on Methods of Confronting Crime”

Under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Political Sciences at Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Osama Murtada Baqir Al-Saidi, and as part of the effort to enhance security awareness and solidify cooperation between academic and security institutions, the Continuing Education Unit at the college organized a scientific symposium titled “Organized Crime in Iraq: Confrontation and Institutional Cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and Universities.”

The symposium aimed to highlight the challenges posed by organized crime in Iraq and review the mechanisms for confronting it, emphasizing the importance of partnership between state institutions, particularly between the Ministries of Higher Education and Interior.

The symposium featured lectures by Dr. Mustafa Sadiq Awad and Captain Dr. Khaled Aziz, representing the Ministry of Interior, and was moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Rawa Taha Darwish.

The symposium discussed the reality of organized crime in Iraq, security efforts to combat crime, the role of universities in supporting national security, and building an effective partnership between universities and the Ministry of Interior.

The symposium concluded with several recommendations, including:

  1. Activating research cooperation programs between universities and security institutions.
  2. Establishing a joint database for security research.
  3. Organizing training courses and workshops to raise awareness about the dangers of organized crime.
  4. Incorporating academic courses on security and organized crime in university curricula.
