Scientific Discussion

A master’s thesis titled “Zionist Projects and Maritime Security in the Red Sea after 2009” was discussed in the College of Political Sciences at Al-Nahrain University. The thesis was presented by student Safa Raad Abd on Thursday, July 10, 2025, in the Hall of the Civilizations of the Two Rivers in the college.
The thesis aims to analyze the policies and projects adopted by the Zionist entity in the Red Sea region after 2009 and the extent to which these projects reflect on maritime security in this vital region on military, economic, and geopolitical levels.
The importance of the topic stems from the strategic location of the Red Sea as a vital international passage for global trade, linked to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Suez Canal, making it a crossroads for regional and international interests. It reveals the Zionist entity’s efforts to enhance its influence and secure its interests through regional partnerships, military alliances, and logistical presence in the Red Sea countries.
The thesis included several analytical axes, most notably:
- Dimensions of Zionist penetration in the Red Sea countries through security agreements and intelligence cooperation.
- The role of infrastructure and port projects in enhancing Zionist influence in the region.
- The impact of normalization and the Abraham Accords on reshaping the map of influence in the Red Sea.
- Implications of these moves on regional maritime security amid non-traditional threats and multiple actors.
