A master’s thesis at Al-Nahrain University discusses US foreign policy and managing regional balances in East Asia

The College of Political Sciences at Al-Nahrain University discussed a master’s thesis titled “US Foreign Policy and Managing Regional Balances in East Asia” by the student Ghufran Aqil Hassan Muhammad from the Department of International Politics.

The thesis aims to highlight the importance of the East Asia region from a geo-strategic and economic perspective, and to shed light on the evolution of US foreign policy towards the region, analyzing the internal and external variables that have affected this policy since 2017. Additionally, the thesis clarifies the tools used by the United States to manage regional balances in the region and forecasts the future of this policy.

The thesis included several axes, including: clarifying the importance of the East Asia region as a center of attraction for international powers, and analyzing the policies and bilateral and multilateral alliances adopted by the United States to achieve its strategic interests in the region.

The thesis concluded that the East Asia region is of great geo-strategic importance, which has prompted major powers, including the United States, to enhance their influence there by building relationships and alliances with key players in the region.
