Scientific Participation: Assistant Professor Dr. Mohsen Hassani Zahir, a lecturer at the College of Political Sciences at Al-Nahrain University, participated in the scientific symposium organized by the House of Wisdom in cooperation with the Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies, titled “The Implications of Ending the Oil Transfer Agreement through the Port of Ceyhan on Iraq”.
Dr. Mohsen’s participation focused on the political axis of the symposium, where he discussed the historical background of the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil agreement signed in 1972 and entered into force in 1977. He also addressed the Turkish President’s decision to terminate the agreement as of July 2026 and the International Chamber of Commerce’s ruling to fine Ankara $1.5 billion for violating the agreement by purchasing oil from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq without the knowledge of the central government.
The research included the opportunities and challenges facing the Baghdad government, as well as some conclusions and recommendations presented to the Iraqi government regarding addressing alternatives in the event of stopping oil pumping.
