Master’s Thesis

DefenseA Master’s thesis defense was held at the College of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University. The thesis was presented by Tabarak Ghani Salman and titled “International Competition in Outer Space and the National Security of States: The United States of America and the Russian Federation as a Model.”The examining committee consisted of: Prof. Dr. Shaimaa Adel Fadhil – Chairman Asst. Prof. Dr. Arkan Ibrahim Adwan – Member M. Dr. Faisal Ghazi Nasser – Member Prof. Dr. Riyadh Mahdi Abdul Kadhim – Member and Supervisor The study addressed the evolution of outer space as a strategic domain in international relations, in light of the growing military, technological, and economic uses of space, and the accompanying transformations in the concept of national security.The study aimed to analyze the dimensions of international competition in outer space and its implications for the national security of states, to examine the nature of the relationship between space utilization and national and international security, and to explore the military, security, economic, and technological dimensions of space competition among international powers.The study concluded that the relationship between national security and the use of outer space is an integrated and mutual one. Space systems contribute to enhancing states’ military capabilities through Global Positioning Systems (GPS), reconnaissance, and early warning systems.
