DefenseA Master’s thesis defense was held at the College of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University. The thesis was titled “Non-Traditional Threats and Their Impact on Iraqi National Security Strategy After 2016” by researcher Saad Ibrahim Ali Nihar.The examining committee consisted of: Prof. Dr. Amer Hashem Awad – Chairman Asst. Prof. Dr. Hazem Ali Hamza – Member M. Dr. Laith Alaa Khudhair – Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Salah Mahdi Hadi – Member and Supervisor The thesis addressed non-traditional threats and their impact on Iraqi national security strategy after 2016, in light of the profound transformations in the security and political environment following the decline of the direct terrorist threat. The study explained that this phase produced new patterns of threats characterized by complexity and overlap, including cyber, economic, environmental, political, and social threats, alongside the growing role of non-state actors.The study aimed to provide a comprehensive analytical approach through a conceptual and theoretical framework that clarifies the patterns of these threats, analyzes the Iraqi strategic response, and examines institutional performance pathways and coordination mechanisms among official bodies.The study concluded with the importance and centrality of comprehensive approaches in enhancing strategic response. It emphasized the need to adopt the concept of comprehensive national security, advance institutional reform, and develop capabilities in the cyber, economic, and environmental domains. This would contribute to raising the state’s readiness to confront non-traditional threats and achieve sustainable national stability.
