Field Visit to the Ministry of Trade
Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University, Prof. Dr. Osama Murtada Baqir Al-Saidi, and a group of professors from the Department of International Economic Relations, the department organized a field visit to the Ministry of Trade/Private Sector Development Directorate.
The visit was attended by professors and second-stage students from the department. The team of professors included:
- Prof. Dr. Akhlas Qasim Nafal
- Asst. Prof. Anwar Hamed Hamad
- Asst. Prof. Rafif Ayad Hassan
- Asst. Prof. Aliya Muhammad Tarish
The delegation met with the Deputy Director General of the Directorate, Dr. Sarmad Al-Saadi, and several officials from the units and departments of the directorate.
The officials provided an explanation of the directorate’s tasks, which include:
- Developing and promoting the private sector to activate its role in building the national economy, in coordination with educational institutions, government departments, and companies.
- Organizing training courses and workshops for ministry employees and representatives of the private sector to build capacity and develop human resources.
- Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and facilitating their procedures.
- Promoting private sector exports by participating in economic events, exhibitions, and conferences.
- Supporting local production and encouraging domestic and foreign investment.
- Updating commercial legislation to meet international standards.
The professors from the Department of International Economic Relations proposed that the directorate play a role in obliging private sector companies and professionals to employ graduates of bachelor’s degree holders through workshops and courses organized by the directorate.
