Three female lecturers from the Faculty of Political Science at Al-Nahrain University participated in the Second Women’s Political Forum, organized by the Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies under the patronage of National Security Advisor Mr. Qasim Al-Araji, which was held under the title “Women and the 2025 Parliamentary Elections.” The forum was attended by parliamentary figures, foreign ambassadors, and female candidates for the elections, as well as representatives from the Independent High Electoral Commission.
Assistant Professor Dr. Shayma Turkan Saleh, Assistant Professor Dr. Sari Mufaq Jafar, and Assistant Lecturer Mufaz Ibrahim Daoud attended the forum.
Research papers were presented at the forum focusing on the role of women in elections from 2003 to 2025, the challenges they faced, and the successes they achieved, as well as their role in the 2025 elections, the number of female candidates, the turnout for them, and the obstacles affecting their participation.
It is hoped that the next Iraqi parliamentary elections will be held on November 11 with broad participation from coalitions, parties, and individuals, and that women will have a prominent presence in the next parliament.
