Awareness Lecture on Combating Drug Abuse

The Department of International Politics at the College of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University, organized an awareness lecture titled “Combating Drug Abuse and its Effects on Individuals and Society” delivered by Dr. Omar Saad Khalid.

The lecture addressed the issue of drug abuse and addiction, which is a contemporary social problem posing a threat to the security, safety, and stability of societies. It emphasized that combating drug abuse is a pressing necessity for societal advancement and achieving social, economic, and political stability.

The lecture highlighted the main causes of drug abuse, particularly in Iraq, and its security and social consequences. It also reviewed Iraqi laws and legislation related to combating this phenomenon, including Law No. 50 of 2017, and the key institutions involved in implementing anti-drug policies in Iraq.

The lecture concluded by stressing the importance of coordinating efforts among government agencies, educational institutions, and civil society organizations to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and ways to combat it.
