M. Dr. Mohammed Majeed Hussein, faculty member at the College of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University, published a research paper titled “Russian Foreign Policy Toward the Middle East After 2000” in Bayt Al-Hikma Journal – Department of Political and Strategic Studies.The paper sought to analyze the orientations of Russian foreign policy toward the Middle East region, based on the strategic importance that the region holds in Russian vision, particularly with regard to international and regional interests and Russian national security.The paper also addressed the factors that contributed to enhancing the importance of the Middle East in Russian foreign policy, foremost among them geographical, economic, security, and political factors, as key determinants of Russian strategic interests. This prompted the Russian Federation to increase its effectiveness and presence in the region in line with its orientations and strategic interests.
