Three faculty members from the College of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University, have published a book titled “Russian Orientations in Africa: A Strategy of Influence in the Sub-Saharan Region”. The book was published by Hatrick for Printing and Publishing. The authors are: Prof. Dr. Ikhlas Qassim Nafel M. Dr. Anwar Hamid Hamad Prof. Dr. Nasreen Riyadh Shanshool The book sheds light on the nature of Russia’s growing presence on the African continent, with a focus on the Sub-Saharan region as a central axis of Russia’s new strategy. It seeks to analyze the political, economic, and security motives behind this orientation, and to reveal the tools and mechanisms Moscow employs to strengthen its influence. These include military agreements, private security companies, energy and mining projects, as well as building partnerships with political regimes and local elites.The book also discusses the implications of this presence on regional and international balances of power, and on the future of security and stability in the Sahel and Sahara region.
