Assistant Lecturer Mahdi A. Wadaa, a lecturer at the College of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University, published a research paper titled “Theory of Popular Sovereignty and Legitimacy” in the Ashour Journal of Legal and Political Sciences, issued by the Iraqi Association of Legal Sciences 📚.The study discussed the concept of popular sovereignty, where state power originates from the people, and legitimacy is based on people’s consent. It highlighted that government authority stems from the people’s will, exercised through elected representatives. The concept of sovereignty varies across systems, with democratic systems viewing people as the source of legitimacy, while some Islamic systems consider divine sovereignty as the rule of governance.Key principles include the people as the source of political power, government legitimacy derived from people’s consent, and the exercise of power through elected representatives.
