A lecture on the role of sports

A lecture on the role of sports in building peace was held at the College of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University, sponsored by Dean Prof. Dr. Osama Murtadha B. Al-Saeedi. The lecture, “Investing in Sports for Peacebuilding”, was presented by Asst. Lecturer Saif Nabhan, Human Rights Unit Coordinator.

The lecture highlighted sports as a tool for supporting peacebuilding efforts locally, uniting individuals around shared goals, and promoting respect and communication among diverse groups. It emphasized building positive social relationships through sports, reducing tensions, and fostering dialogue.

The speaker noted that instilling values like sportsmanship, teamwork, and mutual respect, along with communication skills, can effectively reduce conflicts and promote a culture of peace. This lecture aimed to spread peace culture and raise awareness about sports’ role in supporting stability and coexistence.
