Scientific Lecture

Under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Political Sciences at Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Osama Murtadha Baqir Al-Saadi, the Department of International Economic Relations at the college, in collaboration with the University Psychological Counseling Unit, organized a scientific lecture titled “The Phenomenon of Addiction and Its Effects on Iraqi Youth: Challenges and Solutions.” The lecture featured papers presented by professors Dr. Ikhlas Qasim Nafil, Dr. Haitham Karim Siwan, and Dr. Nisreen Riyadh Shanshool, moderated by Dr. Wasn Ihsan Abdul-Munim.
The lecture addressed several key aspects of addiction, including behavioral addiction, substance addiction, and strategies to combat addiction in Iraq. It presented data and information from health and security institutions to raise awareness among students about the risks of this phenomenon, particularly the silent threat of behavioral addiction facing Iraqi youth.
The lecture concluded with several recommendations, including:
- Increasing cultural awareness about the dangers of addiction.
- Emphasizing the role of families and society in addressing this phenomenon.
- Enhancing the role of centers and institutions that treat addiction.
- Activating regulatory and legal roles to reduce this phenomenon.
