“The Woman and Parliamentary Elections: Representation and Real Participation”

The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Political Sciences, Al-Nahrain University, in cooperation with the Independent High Electoral Commission, organized a scientific lecture titled: “The Woman and Parliamentary Elections: Representation and Real Participation” at the Civilizations of Mesopotamia Hall.

The lecture aimed to raise awareness about the importance of empowering women in the electoral and political process, highlighting their roles in achieving fair parliamentary representation and effective participation in decision-making, within the framework of supporting democracy and equality values.

The lecture was organized by a committee consisting of:

  • Assistant Professor Sari Muwafaq Jaafar, Head of the Women’s Affairs Unit.
  • Lecturer Mais Mahmoud Aday, Women’s Affairs Unit.

The lecturers were:

  • Nebras Ahmed Ibrahim, Assistant Spokesperson and member of the Women’s Electoral Support Team.
  • Trainer Asma Khairallah Jarad, member of the Women’s Electoral Support Team.

During the lecture, the speakers discussed the main challenges facing women in political participation and the ways to enhance their presence in public life and parliament, emphasizing the need to support awareness programs that increase women’s participation in upcoming elections.

The event concluded with discussions and interventions from the audience on mechanisms to empower women’s electoral participation and the role of academic institutions in promoting a culture of conscious political participation.
